JOSEPH P. ROBERSON FOUNDATION Founded October 1, 1991 Funding Care Until There’s A Cure The Joseph P. Roberson Foundation is a tax exempt, non-profit organization under the IRS Tax Code 501(c)(3). The Foundation helps fund the Nurse Practitioner at the UC Davis Medical Center Huntington’ s Disease Clinic in Sacramento, California, through an annual grant. Mission Statement Our mission is to support clinical care for families affected by Huntington’ s disease. History Joseph P. Roberson started his Foundation after he was diagnosed with Huntington’ s disease. The mission of the Foundation is fulfilled with an annual grant to the Huntington’s Disease Clinic at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. This grant helps fund the HD nurse’ s salary. The nurse practitioner’ s role is to care for Huntington’ s disease patients through clinical care and clinical trials. Teresa Tempkin, RN, MS, ANP, is the HD Clinic’ s nurse practitioner. For nearly twelve years, she has worked directly with Dr. Vicki Wheelock, the clinic’ s neurologist and movement disorder specialist. Together Dr. Wheelock and Teresa Tempkin care for 250 people affected with Huntington’s disease; their clinic is the fourth largest HD clinic in the US. There are seven clinical trials/ studies taking place with a stem cell trial in the pipeline. Their team of experts includes: a psychiatrist, genetic counselor, social worker and physical therapist. Through the HDSA Center of Excellence at the UC Davis Medical Center, this team approach provides the best care for the person affected with Huntington’ s disease. Although Joe and three other members of his family have died from HD, his vision of caring for people with HD lives on through the work of his Foundation. Your tax-deductible gift helps ensure that this important work continues. Because the Foundation is run by volunteers and has no overhead, 100% of your donation is used to fund the clinic.
